USO DE MEDICAMENTOS EN PERSONAS DE LA TERCERA EDAD NO INSTITUCIONALIZADAS, EN EL CANTÓN AMBATO

Se realizó un estudio transversal y descriptivo con el objetivo de conocer el comportamiento en el uso de medicamentos en personas de la tercera edad. Se utilizó como universo los pacientes mayores de 60 años pertenecientes a las 28 parroquias del cantón Ambato y como muestra las 10 parroquias urbanas y 14 rurales seleccionadas de forma aleatoria. Se encuestaron un total de 2890 ancianos, utilizando un instrumente debidamente validado que recogió información demográfica, sobre las enfermedades que padecían los encuestados, el uso de medicamento y sus opiniones sobre los medicamentos que consumían. Se concluyó  que en la población estudiada predominó el uso de un medicamento y en los casos de usar más de uno predominaron las interacciones medicamentosas beneficiosas, los grupos farmacológicos más utilizados fueron los hipotensores seguidos de los hipoglucemiante, los antiinflamato- rios no esteroideos y los que actúan sobre afecciones gastrointestinales, predominando la prescripción médica, excepto en el caso de los antiinflamatorios no esteroideo donde predominó la indicación no médica y la automedicación, en sentido general se hace un uso adecuado de los medicamentos en cuanto a dosis, frecuencia y duración del tratamiento en todos los grupos farmacológicos. Hay marcadas deficiencias en cuanto a la información que se le ofrece a los pacientes sobre el tratamiento que deben cumplir,   lo que interfiere en una adecuada educación en el uso de los medicamentos y en el conocimiento que tienen sobre las consecuencias que puede ocasionar un incumplimiento del régimen terapéutico  Palabras clave: Tercera edad, Personas tercera edad no institucionalizados, uso de medicamentos.  ABSTRACT:  A cross-sectional study was conducted and descriptive with the objective of learning about the behavior in the use of drugs in people of the third age, were used as the universe patients older than 60 years old, belonging to the 28 parishes of the canton Ambato and as shows the 10 parishes and 14 rural urban selected at random, they surveyed a total of 2890 elderly, using an instrumented properly validated that collected demographic information, on the diseases that were suffering from the respondents, the use of medication and their views on the medications that they consumed. It was concluded that predominated in the studied population the use of a medication and in the cases to use more than one predominant drug interactions beneficial, the pharmacological groups were the most commonly used antihypertensive followed by the oral hypoglycemic agent, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and those who operate on gastrointestinal affections, dominate the medical prescription, except in the case of the non-steroidal anti-inflam- matory where the prevailing non-medical indication and the medication, in a general sense the proper use of medications in regard to dosage, frequency and duration of treatment in all the Pharmacological groups. There are marked deficiencies in the information that is offered to patients on the treatment that must be met, which interferes with the proper education on the use of medicines and in the knowledge that they have on the consequences that may cause a breach of the therapeutic regimen.  Keywords: Third Age, People not institutionalized elderly, Use of drugs.
