The excluded murals of Ángel Zárraga at the Monterrey Cathedral: 1942-1945Resumen: Los poco conocidos murales de Ángel Zárraga en la Catedral de Monterrey, México, han estado apartados de la historia del Muralismo Mexicano, tal vez por su contenido religioso y por no tratar los temas de las luchas obreras campesinas, la historia del México posrevolucionario o de crítica social, además de estar ubicados en una ciudad donde no se desarrolló dicho movimiento artístico como fue en la ciudad de México o Guadalajara. En este trabajo se presenta una descripción iconográfica del contenido religioso y algunos comentarios críticos para difundir, así como justipreciar, el alto valor artístico de estos murales pintados entre 1942 y 1945. Palabras clave: Muralismo, Arte Mexicano siglo XX, Pintura Moderna.Abstract: The little-known murals by Ángel Zárraga in the Cathedral of Monterrey, Mexico, have been removed from the history of Mexican Muralism, perhaps because of its religious content and because it does not deal with the issues of peasant workers' struggles, the history of post-revolutionary Mexico or social criticism, in addition to being located in a city where the artistic movement was not developed as it was in Mexico City or Guadalajara. This work presents an iconographic description of the religious content and some critical comments to disseminate, as well as assessing the high artistic value of these murals painted between 1942 and 1945.Keywords: Muralism, 20th century Mexican Art, Modern Painting.
