REFLECTIONS ON THE PLASTIC-EXPRESSIVE POSSIBILITIES OF THE MATTER IN THE SCULPTURE OF THE TWENTIETH CENTURY. ORIGINSResumen:Desde los albores de la Humanidad, el hombre ha estado íntimamente ligado a los materiales que le rodeaban para así conformar los objetos y útiles necesarios para la satisfacción de sus necesidades tanto físicas como las espirituales. Con la incorporación, a principios del siglo XX, de nuevas técnicas y de nuevos materiales en el ámbito escultórico como el vidrio, acero, hierro, aluminio, hormigón, plexiglás, los objetos de desecho, etc., producto de un importante desarrollo científico y tecnológico, permitió dar paso a nuevas ideas y nuevos conceptos, una búsqueda de nuevas formas de expresión, promoviéndose a la par una investigación acerca de las posibilidades plásticas y expresivas de cada uno de los materiales aparecidos e incorporados a la práctica artística. Abstract:Since the dawn of humanity, man has been closely linked to the materials around him in order to create the objects and items necessary for the satisfaction of both his physical and spiritual needs. Following the addition, in the early twentieth century, of new techniques and new materials in the field of sculpture such as glass, steel, iron, aluminium, concrete, Plexiglas, waste items, etc. resulting from important scientific and technological developments, new ideas and concepts could emerge along with a search for new forms of expression, while at the same time there was an urge to investigate the plastic and expressive possibilities of each of the materials that had appeared and to incorporate them into artistic practice.
