Description

Spain’s cultural atmosphere, which had suffered a significant setback as a result of the ravages of the Civil War, began to show some signs of recovery halfway through the 20th century. In the city of Oviedo (Spain), an important center of renewal of the Spanish University at the turn of the century, in which there were even art salons linked to the early 20th-century bazaars, the framework-circuit within which our artists would end up operating became fully established thanks to the active role of the Tertulia Naranco (Naranco Social Gathering), whose varied cast of members met at the Café Cervantes for programming purposes. The present study aims at helping clarify the role of this initiative, whose operation and model enabled the birth of the first contemporary art galleries in the region of Asturias. Keywords: Oviedo, exhibition, social gathering, promoter, café, circuit
