- Description
Beans have centers of origin in both Mesoamerica and Andean South America, with a third gone pool possibly in Ecuador and Northern Peru. While studies on the biodiversity of bean rhizobia have emphasized Mesoamerica, coevolution of host and rhizobia in each center of origin could have resulted in specificity affecting nodulation and nitrogen fixation in beans.
