Guayaquil: un puerto colonial en los mares del sur, siglo XVIII (Estudios)

Description: Este artículo analiza el emplazamiento urbano, las dinámicas económicas y las relaciones sociales que caracterizaron a Guayaquil durante el XVIII. El desarrollo económico y productivo que experimentó la ciudad-puerto se debió a su feraz entorno natural y a las posibilidades de comunicación que brindó el sistema fluvial del Guayas. Se analizan las particularidades de su estructura social, las relaciones entre la élite y los sectores subalternos, la estructura político-administrativa del Cabildo y la influencia que este centro urbano ejerció sobre los pueblos y partidos ubicados en su hinterland.
This artic1e analyzes the urban setting, the economic dynamics and the social relations that characterized Guayaquil during the 18th century. The economic and productive development that the port city experienced was due to the fertility of its natural environment and to the possibilities of communication facilitated by the fluvial system of Guayas. The peculiarities of the social structure, the reIationships among the elite and the subordinate sectors, the políticaI administrative structure of the town council and the influence that this urban center exercised on the peopIe and parties located in its hinterland are also studied.
