Hablar de la presencia de la Compañía de Jesús en el Ecuador es hablar no solo de la Historia del país sino también de su influencia en la educación de varias generaciones de niños y jóvenes ecuatorianos. El espíritu de la educación que se imparte en los centros educativos de la orden en todos los niveles de formación está guiado por los principios de su fundador, Ignacio de Loyola, recogidos y sistematizados en la Pedagogía Ignaciana, que incluye valores y propósitos en concordancia con su pensamiento y sus criterios de formación de ciudadanos conscientes, competentes, comprometidos y compasivos. Este trabajo, revisa no solo esta forma del quehacer educativo de las instituciones jesuitas sino que busca evidenciar cómo ha evolucionado frente a las necesidades y recursos del siglo XXI, a través del repaso de los esfuerzos en innovación educativa aplicados en los colegios ecuatorianos y en los planteles en Cataluña, España.
To talk about the presence of the Company of Jesus order in Ecuador is to talk not only about the county’s History but also of its influence on the education of several generations of Ecuadorian children and youth. The spirit behind the education given in the educational centers of the order in all of the learning levels is guided by the principles of its founder, Ignacio de Loyola, compiled and systematized in the Ignatian Pedagogy, which includes values and purpose in concordance with his thinking and his formative criteria of conscious, competent, compromised and compassionate citizens. This works reviews not only this way of the educative labor of the Jesuit institutions but also aims to make evident how it has evolved in face of the needs and resources of the XXI century, through the assessment of the efforts in educational innovations applied in ecuadorian high schools as well as in schools in Catalonia, Spain.
