From a reflection located in the Semiotics of Culture of Yuri Lotman and in dialogue with some considerations on myth criticism and its literary translation, this paper looks to explore the potency of the metaphor of “nudo blanco” [white knot] proposed by the novel La ciudad ausente (1992) by Ricardo Piglia, in order to think about the complex relationship between myth and cultural memory. Inquiring the way in which the dialogue between myth and literature could be read, we explore how that relationship shows a more inclusive mechanism, which refers to the dynamics itself of a cultural system. Thus, the hypothesis in our study is that certain cultural texts translate each other (myth as literary substrate and literature as a vehicle of myth), allowing to account for this dynamism through metaphors that, far from being a mere literary ornament, enable to capture the mode of functioning of a cultural system.
A partir de una reflexión situada desde la Semiótica de la Cultura de Iuri Lotman en diálogo con algunas reflexiones sobre la crítica del mito y su traducción literaria, este trabajo busca explorar la potencia de la metáfora del “nudo blanco” que propone la novela La ciudad ausente (1992) de Ricardo Piglia para pensar la compleja relación entre mito y memoria de la cultura, indagando el modo en que podría ser leído el diálogo entre mito y literatura y cómo esa relación da cuenta de un mecanismo más abarcativo, que alude a la diámica misma de un sistema cultural. Así, la hipótesis que maneja nuestro estudio es que determinados textos culturales, al traducirse entre sí (el mito como sustrato literario y la literatura como vehículo del mito) permiten dar cuenta de ese dinamismo a través de metáforas que, lejos de constituir un mero ornato literario, permiten captar el modo de funcionamiento de un sistema cultural.
