The Circular Economy as the axis of development of Latin American countries

Description: The main objective of this article is to analyze whether the Circular Economy can now become the axis on which the sustainable economic growth of the economies of a region such as Latin America and the Caribbean pivots. It is based on the definition of Circular Economy and, subsequently, it is analyzed if the basic features of it are met in the set of Latin American economies, analyzing some concrete cases. It also addresses the outstanding problems and challenges of the Latin American and Caribbean economies with regard to circularity, and finally draws conclusions and outlines future lines of research that may be of interest at the academic and practical levels.
El presente artículo tiene como objetivo principal analizar si en la actualidad la Economía Circular puede convertirse en el eje sobre el que pivote el crecimiento económico sostenible de las economías de una región como América Latina y el Caribe. Se parte de la definición de Economía Circular y, con posterioridad, se analiza si los rasgos básicos de ella se cumplen en el conjunto de economías latinoamericanas, analizando algunos casos concretos. Asimismo, se plantean los problemas y retos pendientes de las economías de América Latina y el Caribe en relación con la circularidad y, por último, se extraen conclusiones y se esbozan unas futuras líneas de investigación que puedan resultar de interés a nivel académico y práctico.
