DOES A SOCIAL NETWORK FACILITATE COLLABORATIVE WORK AMONG STUDENTS?RESUMENLa evolución de la web a la web social 2.0, permitó el surgimiento de las redes sociales, estas presentan la oportunidad de intercambiar información y estar en constante interacción. Las redes sociales cada día tienen más usuarios, es el caso de Facebook, que es la red social con más usuarios en el mundo; ésta tiene un entorno con muchas características que pueden ser aprovechadas por la educación, sobre todo cuando se debe trabajar de manera colaborativa. Esta red social podría ser una buena alternativa para el trabajo en grupo, pues aunque existan dificultades de tiempo y espacio, no sería impedimento por su uso en línea, de allí que el objetivo de este estudio sea determinar si Facebook facilita el trabajo colaborativo. Para lograr esto se creó un grupo virtual y se diseñaron actividades colaborativas en las tutorías académicas; para la obtención de datos se aplicó una encuesta en línea antes de la experiencia y otra encuesta al final, lo que permitió observar el uso que le dan los estudiantes y las percepciones que tienen de Facebook como herramienta de colaboración. Los resultados fueron positivos, pues los estudiantes utilizaron semanalmente la red social para subir y compatir información, debatir un tema y postear links, videos y comentarios críticos; además, también consideraron positivo el crear un grupo de Facebok para una asignatura.PALABRAS CLAVE: Redes sociales; trabajo colaborativo; Facebook.ABSTRACTThe evolution of the web to the social web 2.0, allowed the emergence of social networks, the opportunity to exchange information and to be in constant interaction. Social networks have more users every day, it is the case of Facebook that is a social network with more users in the world, has an environment with many features that can be exploited by education, especially when working collaboratively. It is a good alternative for group work because although there are difficulties of time and space, they will not be an impediment for their use on line; hence the purpose of this study is to determine if Facebook facilitates collaborative work. To achieve this, a virtual group was created and collaborative activities were designed in academic tutorials; to obtain data was applied an online survey before the experience and another at the end that allowed observing the use they give and perceptions of Facebook as a collaboration tool. The results were positive because students used the social network weekly to upload and share information, discuss a topic and post links, videos and critical comments, and considered positive to create a Facebook group for a subject.KEYWORDS: social networks; collaborative work; Facebook.
