La mecanización agrícola desempeña un papel primordial en la producción de alimentos. Su implementación adecuada requiere conocer los indicadores que inciden en su desempeño. El objetivo de este trabajo fue determinar el índice de mecanización agrícola de la parroquia Crucita del cantón Portoviejo. Consistió en la ejecución de una investigación de tipo descriptiva no experimental, la cual estuvo dividida en dos fases, la primera un levantamiento en campo que conllevó la ejecución de una encuesta socio económica y técnica dirigida a productores y propietarios de maquinaria agrícola y la segunda fase de trabajo implicó la obtención del área mecanizable con el uso de herramientas de sistema de información geográfica (SIG). Se obtuvo como resultado, una edad media de los productores de 52,3 años, cuyo mayor índice de educación es primaria con un 70%; en relación a la maquinaria se evidencio que existen tres tipos de maquinaria en la zona con un total de 82 unidades, donde el motocultor representa el 79% del total. El área óptima(ideal) para mecanizar es 1161,45 ha. El índice de mecanización en el área en estudio presentó particularidades que responden al cultivo establecido siendo en este caso el arroz el de mayor incidencia con un IM de 1,80 kW. ha-1, el cual representa que para este rubro existe una sub utilización de la maquinaria, caso contrario ocurre con toda el área disponible para mecanizar donde existe un IM de 0,40 kW. ha-1 en la cual la única maquinaria disponible es el tractor de dos ejes el mismo indica sobre utilización. Agricultural mechanization plays a major role in food production. Its proper implementation requires knowing the indicators that affect its performance. The objective of this work was to determine the agricultural mechanization index of the Crucita parish of the Portoviejo canton. It consisted in the execution of a non-experimental descriptive research, which was divided into two phases, the first a survey in the field that led to the execution of a socio-economic and technical survey aimed at producers and owners of agricultural machinery and the second phase The work involved obtaining the machinable area with the use of geographic information system (GIS) tools. The result was an average age of the producers of 52, 3 years, whose highest education index is primary with 70%; In relation to machinery, it was evidenced that there are three types of machinery in the area with a total of 82 units, where the walking tiller represents 79% of the total. The optimal (ideal) area for machining is 1161, 45 ha. The mechanization index in the study area presented particularities that respond to the established crop, in this case rice the one with the highest incidence with an MI of 1,80 kW. ha-1, which represents that for this item there is an underuse of machinery, otherwise it occurs with the entire area available for machining where there is an MI of 0.40 kW. ha-1 in which the only machinery available is the two-axle tractor, it indicates about use.
