Description

With the constant development of smaller, lighter, and more efficient electronic circuits; research efforts focus on develop new circuits and structures with a variety of new materials that could be use with or in place of traditional semiconductors such as silicon. The present project designed a model of a simplified electrolyte-gated field effect transistor to explore to what extent electrolyte solutions are capable to induce carriers in a semiconductor substrate affecting the overall conduction properties of the device, as function of the gate voltage applied and the electrolyte concentration. This project first characterized the device following a sample preparation method particularly easy; using silicon as the semiconductor, titanium wires as drain and source contacts, potassium chloride (KCl) as the electrolyte-gate and Ag/AgCl as the reference electrode.
