This project covers the different stages of the research and development of a Carbon Fibre reinforced Plastic component for a Hang Glider of the British company Avian Ltd which is well known for manufacturing high performance hang gliders. After the component was selected, the structural design of the component was based on the determinations of the loads that the structure will support and the construction of a Finite Element Model and analysis to discover an optimized structure that will withstand the load conditions and will reduce the weight and cost. The use of carbon fibre braids were selected as the reinforcement material due to ability of conforming over complex shapes, and the continuity of fibres it offers.
