Description

This dissertation explores the state?s way governing and framing nature with a particularfocus on food production and the emergence of the potentially paradigm-altering notion of foodsovereignty as a movement and a response to the global food crisis. It examines how thecontemporary state can respond to and incorporate alternative concepts like food sovereignty byfocusing on the particular case of Ecuador, where food sovereignty became part of the NationalConstitution in 2008. It argues that the state can adopt a diversity of roles at different scales and indifferent contexts, which can often contradict themselves in terms of narratives, ideals andpractices.
