The document reports on research in Ecuador about the development of hydropower with CDM, as a way to understand the reasons why there are just so few hydroelectric CDM projects registered in the country by the UNFCCC. Considering that nowadays the country has 7 hydroelectric CDM projects registered, 15 hydro-CDM projects at validation, and 19 hydroelectric initiatives within the national pipeline. Complementarily, it is important to consider that hydroelectricity in the country is the main renewable energy in the grid, with almost 94% of participation, seeing just renewables; and 45,77% in terms of installed capacity, among the whole sources.
