- Description
This report covers the basics of hydroelectric power generation and explores the different types and methods of generation seen worldwide today. Some advantages and disadvantages of this renewable power source are listed and the extensive worldwide capacity of hydroelectricity expounded upon. An overview of typical hydraulic turbines used nowadays was done and explores into detail different environmental policies applied in the United States as well as technological advances being made. After this background Information, the report runs through sample calculations for a pumped-storage hydroelectric dam and then goes into depth for two case studies of the Coca Codo Sinclair Dam in Ecuador and Ameren UE Bagnell Dam in Lake of the Ozarks, MO. It looks into the design of the hydroelectric plant, economic analyses, technology barriers and solutions, policy impediments and assistance, and the environmental impact of the both hydroelectric projects. The report concludes that, in many locations, hydropower is a highly successful and sustainable method of renewable energy generation, and the world will likely see much more hydroelectricity in future years.
