Description

Salt marshes play a large role in filtering pollution and nutrients as well as providing habitat for a wide array of species; their importance was undermined until recent history and while restoration efforts are ongoing, their efficiency in creating a ?healthy? marsh leaves many questions unanswered, especially in their microbial community composition. In order to assess the effectiveness of marsh restoration, we measured bacterial diversity and potential denitrification rates from two Boston-area marshes with samples taken at three marsh states; restored, degraded, and intact.
