Description

The demographic transition is one the most important demographic theories analysed by many scholars in order to explain the changes in mortality, fertility and population growth, as well as its consequences: population ageing, urbanisation or the changes in sex roles. Under this theoretical framework, mortality patterns have been explained by the epidemiological transition, which cause stress in a population that suffers from communicable and non-communicable diseases, known as the double burden of disease.
