Description

The oil and gas industry plays an important role in the economy of several countries across the world, and it is responsible for many products that people use on a daily basis. Oil and gas industry appears as one of the major providers of energy and raw materials. The essential needs such as transportation, construction, cooling, heating and lighting homes are dependent on the uninterrupted operations of oil and gas industries [1, 2]. About 70% of the total primary energy consumed in the UK is attributable to the oil and gas industry; a number which is expected to be maintained until 2030 according to the Department of Energy and Climate Change [3]. As in most applications and industries, with development, there is a necessity for materials that can satisfy the new demands of service and safety.
