Armisticios y capitulaciones: las fórmulas de negociación en las guerras de Independencia en el Departamento del Sur, 1820-1822 (Estudios)

Description: The article examines the agreements reached in the final stage of the wars of independence in the Departamento del Sur, which encompassed the provinces of Guayaquil, Quito, and Cuenca. These settlements included the implementation of the armistices of Trujillo and Babahoyo, in addition to signing the surrenders, which consisted of compromise alternatives that made it possible to mitigate the impacts of war and saved the lives of hundreds of combatants. The present paper is aimed at reconsidering the clashes of war from the standpoint of negotiations and not from that of war, which is the customary approach in traditional historiography.
Este artículo analiza los acuerdos negociados en la fase final de las guerras de Independencia en el Departamento del Sur, que comprendía las provincias de Guayaquil, Quito y Cuenca. Estas vías de conciliación incluyeron la aplicación de los armisticios de Trujillo y Babahoyo; además de la firma de capitulaciones, que fueron alternativas conciliatorias que permitieron atenuar los efectos de la guerra y salvaron la vida de cientos de combatientes. Este trabajo se inscribe dentro del propósito de reconsiderar los enfrentamientos bélicos desde las negociaciones y no desde el prisma de la guerra, habitual enfoque de la historiografía tradicional.
