Escritura y conciencia crítica: las crónicas modernistas de César E. Aroyo (Crítica)

Description: This article presents an immersion in the narrative of César E. Arroyo (Quito, 1886-Cádiz, 1937). It analyses ten chronicles sent from Spain by the Ecuadorian writer and diplomat and published in Quito in the magazine Letras, between 1912 and 1919. In this set of texts, Arroyo reveals a deep humanist vocation and a permanent creative attitude regarding language and its possibilities. Topics such as literature, war, socialism, religion, art, philosophy, among others, flow through various genres, such as the chronicle, the profile, the essay, the critical review. In most cases, Arroyo achieves a harmonious coexistence between them.
Este artículo presenta una inmersión en la narrativa de César E. Arroyo (Quito, 1886-Cádiz, 1937). Se analizan diez crónicas enviadas desde España por el escritor y diplomático ecuatoriano y publicadas en Quito por la revista Letras, entre 1912 y 1919. Arroyo deja ver en este conjunto de textos una profunda vocación humanista y una permanente actitud creativa respecto del lenguaje y sus posibilidades. Temas como la literatura, la guerra, el socialismo, la religión, el arte, la filosofía, entre otros, fluyen mediante diversos géneros, como la crónica, el perfil, el ensayo, la reseña crítica. En la mayoría de los casos, Arroyo logra una convivencia armónica entre ellos.
