This article examines some of the debates produced around the exhibition commemorating the Bicentennial, held at the National Museum of Colombia, in 2010. To the said finality, the text explores the place of the national museums in contemporary society, the way it has redefined the concept of nation, and the social and cultural role of museums in general. The text is divided into three parts. Part one deals with the history of the national museums and, in particular, the National Museum of Colombia. The second comprehends the challenges and adjustments in the Museum to address new ways of defining the nation. In the last part, there is a presentation of some advantages and difficulties that the analysis of representations presents when developing a critical posture on the nation and its history.
Este texto analiza algunos de los debates que se desarrollaron en torno a la exposición conmemorativa del Bicentenario, que tuvo lugar en el Museo Nacional de Colombia, en 2010. Para tal fin, explora el lugar de los museos nacionales en las sociedades contemporáneas, la manera cómo se ha redefinido el concepto de nación, y la función social y cultural de los museos en general. El texto está dividido en tres partes. La primera trata la historia de los museos nacionales y, en particular, el Museo Nacional de Colombia. La segunda da cuenta de los retos y adecuaciones del Museo frente a las nuevas formas de definir la nación. En la última parte se presentan algunas ventajas y dificultades que tiene el análisis de las representaciones a la hora de elaborar una puesta en escena crítica sobre la nación y su historia.
