Patrimonialismo, conflicto y poder en la reconstrucción de Riobamba, 1797-1822 (Estudios)

Description: Estudio que analiza los conflictos entre las élites de la ciudad de Riobamba y los centros administrativos coloniales de Quito y Santa Fe de Bogotá, a propósito de la reconstrucción de la ciudad luego del terremoto de 1797. La catástrofe puso en evidencia las prácticas políticas y los intereses económicos de la élite criolla riobambeña y del Cabildo de la ciudad. Adicionalmente, se examina la relación de los grupos de poder con la plebe y los indígenas. Estudia además, las divergencias entre los poderes locales y la administración central con respecto al sitio en que se edificaría la nueva ciudad.
A study which investigates the conflicts among the elites from the city of Riobamba and the administrative colonial centers of Quito and Santa Fe de Bogotá, with regard to the reconstruction of the city following the earthquake of 1897. The catastrophe revealed the political practices and the economic interests of the Creole Riobamban elite and the town council. In addition, the relationship among the power groups with the poor urbans and the indigenous groups is examined. Moreover, the divergences among the local powers and the central administration with respect to the site in which the new city was built.
