Estudio Comparativo entre Dspace y Otros Repositos Para Determinar el Más Óptimo en un Prototipo de un Sistema Bibliotecario de Búsqueda de Tesis y Proyectos de Investigación

En la actualidad está aumentando la tendencia a universalizar el acceso al conocimiento científico contenido en publicaciones, artículos, trabajos de investigación y otros tipos de documentos a nivel latinoamericano y mundial. En este sentido, proponen políticas y protocolos que son implementados por software (de licencia gratuita o paga) que permiten el acceso abierto a éstas, y lo hacen publicando y compartiendo sus metadatos.\nLa investigación realizada comenzó en la biblioteca de la Unidad Académica de Ingeniería de Sistemas, Eléctrica y Electrónica, con la idea de compartir información científica, mediante un repositorio Institucional que es una aplicación web que está orientado para los alumnos de la Universidad Católica de Cuenca, cuyo principal objetivo es el de facilitar a los alumnos el acceso a material educativo de investigación que les ayude en sus estudios.\nSe investigaron cuáles son las tendencias a nivel mundial y latinoamericano en la utilización de políticas Open Source, que apoyados por las tendencias investigadas permitieron seleccionar dos software de repositorio institucional para ser evaluados.\nLa evaluación de software candidato se llevó adelante mediante comparaciones cualitativas (funcionalidad), cuantitativas (cantidad de instalaciones, distribución de estas), y en pruebas de instalación, con diferentes opciones utilizando tecnología de virtualización.\nPara asegurar la comparación correcta donde cada aspecto funcional y técnico de cada software, se elaboraron matrices de evaluación, con una calificación numérica de cada aspecto, representado en porcentaje. Los resultados obtenidos fueron utilizados como guía para realizar la recomendación del software a utilizar.\nSe obtuvo como resultado que Dspace es la mejor opción debido a la aceptación masiva que tiene en América Latina, su facilidad de uso, porque se ajusta a las necesidades que tiene la institución y los estudiantes.\nPara integrarse con la página web, se ha procedido a configurar Dspace para personalizarlo y ajustarlo a las necesidades de la Universidad y se concluyó con la realización de pruebas con los usuarios demostrando así su aceptación.
Currently, there is an increasing tendency to universalize the access to scientific knowledge included in publications, articles, research papers, and other types of documents at the Latin-American and world level. In this sense, it is recommended to use policies and protocols that are implemented through software (with a free or paid license) that permits their open access, and it is done by publishing and sharing their metadata.\nThe completed investigation began in the Academic Unit Library of Systems Engineering, Electrics, and Electronics, with the idea to share scientific information, with an institutional repository that is a web application directed towards the students of the Catholic University of Cuenca, whose main objective is to provide the students with the access to educational research material that helps them with their studies.\nIt was investigated what are the tendencies at the world and Latin-American level towards the utilization of the Open Source politics, and as support for the investigated tendencies, there were selected two types of institutional repository software for evaluation.\nThe evaluation of the candidate software was brought forward through qualitative comparisons (usefulness), quantitative comparisons (amount of installations, their distribution), and installation tests with different options using virtual technology.\nTo assure the correct comparison of each functional and technical aspect for each of the software, it was developed some evaluation tables with a numerical rating of each aspect, represented by a percentage. The obtained results were used as guides to carry out the recommendation of the software in use.\nAs a result, Dspace was taken as the best option due to the massive acceptance that it has in Latin-America, due to its ease of use, because it adjusts itself to the needs of an institution and its students.\nTo get integration with the webpage, it was proceeded to configure Dspace to personalize it and adjust it to the needs of the University, and finally a test was taken with the users to demonstrate their acceptance.
