OBJETIVO: Determinar el índice CPOD en escolares de 12 años de la parroquia Totoracocha de la ciudad de Cuenca, 2016. MATERIALES Y MÉTODOS: La metodología fue de tipo cuantitativo descriptivo, retrospectivo, donde se revisaron 178 escolares de 12 años de la parroquia Totoracocha, cuyas ficha reposan en el Departamento de Investigación de la Carrera de Odontología de la Universidad Católica de Cuenca. Estos escolares cumplen con los criterios de selección, y sus datos fueron ingresados en el programa EPINFO 7.2. Los resultados fueron expresados en porcentajes. RESULTADOS: Existe mayor prevalencia de Caries Dental en escolares del sexo femenino con un índice C.P.O.D de 5.1; y escolares del sexo masculino presentaron un índice C.P.O.D de 4.0. En cuanto a la Unidad Educativa, la escuela “San Luis Beltrán” presenta una diferencia significativa en cuanto a la prevalencia de Caries Dental, con un índice C.P.O.D de 12. En cuanto al promedio de CPOD, en los escolares estudiados fue de 4,76, lo que corresponde a un nivel alto según la clasificación de la O.M.S.
OBJECTIVE: To determine the CPOD index in 12-year-old students from the Totoracocha parish in the city of Cuenca, 2016. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The methodology was a quantitative, descriptive, retrospective, where 178 schoolchildren of 12 years of Totoracocha parish were reviewed, whose record rests in the Research Department of the Dentistry Career at the Catholic University of Cuenca. These students meet the selection criteria, and their data were entered into the EPINFO 7.2 program. The results were expressed in percentages. RESULTS: There is a higher prevalence of Dental Caries in female students with a C.P.O.D index of 5.1; and male schoolchildren presented a C.P.O.D index of 4.0. Regarding the Educational Unit, the school "San Luis Beltrán" presents a significant difference in terms of the prevalence of Dental Caries, with a C.P.O.D index of 12. The average of CPOD in the students studied was 4.76, which corresponds to a high level according to the classification of the O.M.S.
