La enfermedad periodontal es una inflamación de los tejidos que rodean el diente, impulsada por bacterias que generan un daño irreversible, cuando se establece esta infección se produce la liberación de varios tipos de citocinas ocasionados por las células que protegen los tejidos orales. El cual es un proceso fisiológico normal, ya que el sistema inmune lo utiliza para defenderse, debido a que estas proteínas proinflamatorias pueden migrar a los tejidos uterinos mediante una vía directa o indirecta, se puede decir que existe un lazo muy significativo y peligroso de la enfermedad periodontal con el embarazo, generando así posibles riesgos de parto prematuro. Materiales y Métodos : Las herramientas y métodos usados para esta revisión bibliográfica se basó en la búsqueda de artículos con reconocimiento científico, los cuales ayudan evidenciar que toda la información planteada en este artículo es actual y totalmente confiable, misma información que fue encontrada en los siguientes buscadores científicos: Google académico, Scielo, PubMed, Medline, Scopus, Dialnet, Redalyc, World Wide Science.
Periodontal disease is an inflammation of the tissues surrounding the tooth, driven by bacteria that generate irreversible damage. When this infection is established, several types of cytokines are released by the cells that protect the oral tissues. This is a normal physiological process since the immune system uses it to defend itself. However, since these proinflammatory proteins can migrate to the uterine tissues through a direct or indirect route, it can be said that there is a very significant and dangerous link between periodontal disease and pregnancy, thus generating possible risks of premature delivery. Materials and Methods: The tools and methods used for this literature review were based on the search for articles with scientific recognition, which helped to demonstrate that all the information presented in this article is current and reliable; the same information was found in the following scientific search engines: Google Scholar, SciELO, PubMed, Medline, Scopus, Dialnet, Redalyc, World Wide Science.
