Objetivo: Determinar la comparación de las medidas de la posición de los dientes con el grosor de los labios en individuos adultos, Cuenca – Ecuador. Metodología: El estudio incluye 248 radiografías cefálicas laterales de cráneo digitales, de individuos adultos entre 18 a 45 años de edad. Para la obtención de las siluetas agradables se presentaron las siluetas a un grupo de 10 estudiantes universitarios por 30 segundos, sin conocimientos de odontología y se les solicitó la detección de los perfiles más armónicos mediante una escala tipo Likert, las siluetas agradables debían cumplir con una puntuación mayor a 30 y se trazaron todas las radiografías con medidas lineales y angulares de los autores Steiner, Holdaway y Arnett. Resultados: Se seleccionaron 23 perfiles armónicos y 56 no armónicos. En individuos armónicos el grosor de la base del labio superior mostró relación con la distancia 1-NA (p=0,008) y la tensión del labio superior con el ángulo 1- NB (p=0,033) Conclusión: En individuos con perfil armónico, cuando aumenta la distancia 1-NA también aumenta el grosor de la base del labio superior y cuando disminuye el ángulo 1-NB aumenta la tensión del labio superior.
Objective: To determine the comparison of tooth position measurements with lip thickness in adults, Cuenca - Ecuador. Methodology: The study included 248 digital lateral cephalic skull radiographs of adults between 18 and 45 years of age. To obtain the pleasing silhouettes, these silhouettes were presented to a group of 10 university students for 30 seconds. They had no knowledge of dentistry and were asked to identify the most harmonious profiles using a Likert-type scale. The pleasing silhouettes had to score higher than 30, and all the radiographs were then traced with linear and angular measurements from the authors Steiner, Holdaway, and Arnett. Results: Twenty-three harmonic and fifty-six non-harmonic profiles were selected. In harmonic individuals, the thickness of the base of the upper lip showed a relationship with the distance 1-NA (p=0.008) and the tension of the upper lip with the angle 1-NB (p=0.033). Conclusion: In individuals with harmonic profiles, when the distance 1-NA increases, the thickness of the base of the upper lip increases, and when the angle 1-NB decreases, the tension of the upper lip increases.
