El Autismo es una enfermedad de tendencia mundial. Los niños que presentan este trastorno a pesar de tener una medicación especializada deben ser tratados por un equipo multidisciplinario que se encargue no solamente de la parte educativa, sino también de la parte psicológica, médica y odontológica viendo siempre una atención holística para el niño. El profesional odontológico que vaya a tratarlos debe estar capacitado y tener conocimiento de cómo recibir a este tipo de pacientes e integrarlos a la salud bucal con el uso de diferentes métodos y protocolos en la atención odontológica. En la descripción de este caso clínico se pretende dar a conocer el manejo de los niños con Autismo mediante la utilización de 3 técnicas: “Tratamiento y Educación de niños con Autismo y otros problemas de comunicación” (TEACCH), “Decir, Mostrar, Hacer” (DMH) y “Desensibilización Sistemática” (DS) abarcando desde el manejo en consultas dentales teniendo en cuenta cada una de las características de los pacientes y sus respuestas a los estímulos, deseando conocer si las técnicas propuestas internacionalmente pueden beneficiar la calidad de atención y servicio a estos pacientes.
Autism is a worldwide tendency disease. Despite special medication, children who present this disorder, should be treated by a multidisciplinary team responsible not only for the educational part but also for the psychological, medical, and dental part, always aiming at holistic child care. The dental professionals who will treat them should be trained and know how to receive this type of patient and integrate them into oral health using different methods and protocols of dental care. In the description of this clinical case, we want to show the treatment of children with autism through the use of 3 techniques: "Treatment and Education of children with autism and other communication problems" (TEACCH), "Tell, Show, Do" (DMH), and "Systematic Desensitization" (SD), covering from the management in dental practices and considering each of the characteristics of patients and their responses to stimuli, willing to learn whether the techniques proposed internationally can benefit the quality of care and service to these patients.
