Efectos de la nicotina y su relación con los tejidos blandos de la cavidad bucal. Revisión de la literatura.

Introducción: El componente principal del cigarrillo, es la nicotina, esta interfiere en el sistema nervioso central, no obstante, no es la única sustancia que contiene el cigarrillo. La gravedad de la enfermedad periodontal ocasionada por el uso de cigarrillos, se ve afectada además por otros factores ajenos al cigarrillo como la frecuencia de higiene dental, enfermedades sistémicas, ambientes sociales y culturales. Objetivo: Determinar los efectos de la nicotina y su relación con los tejidos blandos de la cavidad bucal. Materiales y métodos: Estudio descriptivo transversal mediante la recolección de datos en bases científicas como Scielo, PubMed, Scopus, Google Académico, en la cual, se utilizaron palabras clave como: “Nicotina”, “tabaquismo”, “Productos de Tabaco”, “boca”. Resultados: Como primer signo clínico que se ve reflejado en los pacientes fumadores crónicos es la recesión gingival lo que facilita la acumulación de placa bacteriana, al avanzar, afecta progresivamente al resto de estructuras que le dan soporte al diente. La enfermedad periodontal es la forma en la que se le denomina a toda afección que involucra los tejidos de soporte dental.
Introduction: The main component of cigarettes is nicotine, which interferes with the central nervous system; however, it is not the only substance in cigarettes. The severity of periodontal disease caused by cigarette smoking is also affected by other non-cigarette factors such as frequency of oral hygiene, systemic diseases, and social and cultural environments. Objective: To determine the effects of nicotine and its relationship with the soft tissues of the oral cavity. Materials and methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study using data collection in scientific databases such as SciELO, PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar, in which keywords such as "Nicotine," "smoking," "Tobacco products," and "mouth" were used. Results: The first clinical sign reflected in chronic smokers is the gingival recession, which facilitates the accumulation of bacterial plaque that progressively affects the rest of the structures that support the tooth. Periodontal disease is any condition that involves the tissues that support the teeth.
