El trabajo social en el área gerontológica demanda una intervención multidisciplinaria, por ello el trabajador social debe desarrollar una intervención minuciosa que abarque al adulto mayor desde su contexto global, apoyado por el uso de técnicas, herramientas, instrumentos, entre otros componentes esenciales de la praxis. Para el desarrollo de la investigación se planteó como objetivo general "analizar la intervención que desarrolla el trabajador social en el área gerontológica de la ciudad de Cuenca, en el período septiembre 2019 - febrero 2020". La metodología empleada fue el método culi/cuantitativo, la técnica de recolección de información fue la encuesta estructurada con preguntas abiertas y cerradas, aplicada a toda la población. En base a los resultados obtenidos en el estudio, se evidencia la ausencia de profesionales en el área de Trabajo Social en los diferentes centros Gerontológicos que fueron considerados como objeto como objeto de este proceso investigativo. De los once centros que fueron indagados solo cuatro poseen profesionales de Trabajo Social en su equipo inter-disciplinario; además se evidenció que los profesionales de Trabajo Social enfocan su intervención en el bienestar bio-psicosocial del adulto mayor, potencializando capacidades desde un nivel individual, grupal y comunitario.
Social work in the gerontological area demands a multidisciplinary intervention, therefore the social worker must develop a thorough intervention that covers the older adult from its global context, supported by the use of techniques, tools, instruments, among other essential components of praxis. For the development of the research, the general objective was "to analyze the intervention developed by the social worker in the gerontological area of the city of Cuenca, in the period September 2019 - February 2020". The methodology used was the culi/quantitative method, the data collection technique was the structured survey with open and closed questions, applied to the entire population. Based on the results obtained in the study, it is evident the absence of professionals in the area of Social Work in the different Gerontological centers that were considered as the object of this research process. Of the eleven centers that were surveyed, only four have Social Work professionals in their interdisciplinary team; it was also evidenced that the Social Work professionals focus their intervention on the bio-psychosocial wellbeing of the older adult, empowering capacities from an individual, group and community level.
