Objetivo: Determinar el Índice de Higiene Oral Comunitario en escolares de 12 años, estudiantes de la Parroquia Urbana de San Joaquín del Cantón Cuenca, Provincia del Azuay – Ecuador, 2016. Materiales y Métodos: 92 fichas de escolares, asentimiento y consentimiento respectivo; y, registrados todos en el programa Epi Info. Este estudio es de tipo cuantitativo, descriptivo, observacional, documental, transversal.\nLa placa dental interviene en la caries y en la enfermedad periodontal; en este trabajo se plasma la estadística existente en la Parroquia San Joaquín del cantón Cuenca.\nResultados. La distribución de la muestra según el sexo fue de 55% (51) para el masculino y 45% (41) para el femenino. El 82% de los escolares pertenece a las escuelas fiscales y el 18% restante a los escolares de la única escuela particular. Los NIHOS en toda la Parroquia fue: 62% bueno, 31.5% regular y 6.5% excelente. El IHOS en cada escuela varió entre 0.7 y 1.5. EL promedio de IPB e IPC por tipo de escuela fue: IPB Fiscal 1.00 y Particular 0,66; IPC Fiscal 0,08 y Particular 0,02. El NIHOS según el sexo fue, femenino: 63% bueno, 27% regular y 10% excelente; masculino: 61% bueno, 35% regular y 4% excelente. El IPB por pieza dental determinó que la más afectada fue la 36. El IPC por pieza dental determinó que la pieza más afectada fue la 31.
Objective: To determine the Oral Hygiene Index Community in scholars of 12 years, students of San Joaquin Parish, of Cuenca Canton, Azuay Province - Ecuador, 2016. Materials and Methods: 92 school records, consent and respective assent; all registered in the Epi Info program. This study is quantitative, descriptive, observational documentary and transversal.\nDental plaque gets involved in caries and periodontal disease; this paper shows the statistics of San Joaquin Parish, of Cuenca Canton.\nResults: The sample distribution by sex was 55% (51) for males and 45% (41) for women. 82% of school belongs to the public schools and the remaining school of the only private school 18%. The NIHOS throughout the parish was 62% good, 31.5% regularly and 6.5% excellent. The IHOS in each school ranged between 0.7 and 1.5. The average IPB and IPC by school type was: Fiscal IPB 1.00 and for the Private 0.66; Fiscal IPC 0.08 and for the Private 0.02. The NIHOS by sex was female: 63% good, 27% regularly and 10% excellent; male: 61% good, 35% regularly and 4% excellent. IPB per tooth determined that the most affected tooth was No. 36. The CPI tooth determined that the most affected tooth was No. 31.
