Con el desarrollo de los alimentos manipulados genéticamente se ha logrado incorporar características hasta entonces inexistentes como la resistencia a plagas, herbicidas, temperaturas adversas, etc. Estos alimentos conocidos como transgénicos se obtienen a partir del entrecruzamiento de genes de distintas especies, lo que ha desarrollado controversias a nivel mundial.El presente estudio intenta abordar el tema de análisis y estudio de los organismos transgénicos, ciñéndose a la aceptación o no de los organismos genéticamente modificados en nuestro ordenamiento jurídico conforme está dado en la actualidad, y estableciendo las incidencias de éstos en lo atinente a responsabilidad y precaución. En el presente trabajo se explican conceptos básicos, entre ellos, qué es la biotecnología e ingeniería genética, los organismos genéticamente modificados; cuáles son las posibles consecuencias o riesgos sobre la salud humana o animal, ecológica y económica, y la importancia se regular esta nueva clase de biotecnología para que pueda ser desarrollada dentro del Ecuador.
With the development of genetically engineered foods, we have managed to incorporate features that did not exist until, such as rasistance to pests, herbicides, adverse temperatures, etc. These foods, known as transgenic, are obtained from the instersection of genes from different species, wich has ralsed disputes worldwide. This study attempts to address the issue of analysis and study of transgenic organisms, sticking to the acceptance or rejectiom of genetically modified organisms in our legal system, as is currently give, and establishing the cost of these as it peratains to resposability and caution. In this paper, basic concepts are explained, including what is biothechnology and geneticenguneering, genetically modified organism; what are the posible consequences or risks to human or animal health, ecologial and economic, and the importance of this new class of biotechnology so it can be developed in Ecuador.
