La presente investigación está dirigida al estudio de la cultura urbana gótica en la ciudad de Quito. El estudio está basado en entrevistas, conversatorios, visitas a eventos, conciertos, hechos a miembros del movimiento gótico, además de la revisión bibliográfica sobre el tema. Lo que se pretende es dar a conocer la cosmovisión del grupo, encontrar su motivación estética de manifiesto y establecer problemáticas sobre la idea del prejuicio ante las diferencias culturales. La función del arte trabajada en sus distintas representaciones desde las prácticas de sus autores y seguidores en Quito como la arquitectura, cine, teatro, literatura, música, moda, fotografía, artes plásticas, es la que expresa sus ideologías y puntos de vista como son el romanticismo en la sublimidad de la muerte, la sensualidad y la puesta en escena de la llamada oscuridad.
This research is directed to the study of urban Gothic culture in Quito. The study is based on interviews, discussions, visits to events, concerts, made to Gothic movement members, in addition to the bibliographic review on the subject. The aim is to present the group’s wordview, find their aesthetic motivation and establish the problematic about the idea of prejudice the cultural differences. The function of art in its different representations since the practices of their authors and followers in Quito as architecture, cinema, theater, literature, music, fashion, photography, fine arts, is the one that expresses their ideologies and viewpoints such as romanticism in the sublimity of death, sensuality and staging of the so-called darkness
