Description

Antecedent: Low back pain is a disorder that has been present in society for years, in recent years has reached important values in relation to work absenteeism and functional limitation. However, in Ecuador there are few studies related to this pathology, for this reason the objective of this research was to determine the clinical results presented by patients undergoing a surgical treatment called Rizotomy, at the Naval Hospital of Guayaquil; January- July 2016. Materials and Methods: A descriptive and transversal study was carried out in 147 individuals submitted to Rhizotomy. The effectiveness of this procedure was evaluated in a period of 6 months postoperatively, by means of the EVA pain scale. Results: It is possible to demonstrate that the Facet Rizotomy is an effective method as pain therapy in patients with this pathology, since it was observed the relief they present after the intervention, 66.7% of them refer a degree of mild pain, however, 33.7% still report intense pain. Conclusions: It can be concluded that facet rhizotomy is useful in the management of low back pain. In addition, a high prevalence of overweight and obesity was determined, which increases the risk of developing this lumbar pathology.
