The thesis begins by identifying urban mobility problems in the city of Quito. On the basis of this situation, it is proposed to incorporate a private-operated bikesharing system as a non-motorized mode of transportation for the north-central part of the city. The system must fulfil quality parameters and guarantee the financial sustainability of the project. The design of the bike-sharing system has been done based on a comprehensive diagnosis, the analysis of the regulatory and legal framework, and the characterization of supply and demand of the market. It also includes the company structure proposal, the operational and administrative management strategies, as well as the financial analysis and the main parameters for the feasibility of the business model. The research contribution of this work relies on show casting how alternative mobility private initiatives can be a profitable business and at the same time can contribute to the welfare of the cities. At the same time, this thesis evidence why it is required to implement scientific analysis and research for business decision-making.
El presente trabajo parte identificando la problemática urbana inherente al apartado de movilidad. En ese sentido, se propone una alternativa de mejora para la ciudad relacionada con la incorporación de un medio de movilidad no motorizado para el centro-norte de la ciudad de Quito, que cumpla con diversos parámetros de calidad para el usuario, sin que ello ponga en riesgo la sostenibilidad financiera del proyecto. El trabajo incorpora un análisis integral para el diagnóstico, mismo que comprende un proceso de revisión normativo legal, así como la caracterización de la demanda y oferta que presenta el mercado. Posteriormente, el esfuerzo se traslada al diseño estructural de la empresa, en lo que refiere a la gestión operativa y administrativa de la misma, y culmina con una serie análisis financieros que determinan su viabilidad, así como los principales parámetros que deben considerarse para su consecución. El aporte investigativo que el presente trabajo ofrece a la academia, es promover la investigación y el análisis sobre temas cotidianos que necesitan ser mejorados de manera eficiente, para el bienestar de todos. El trabajo demuestra que estás acciones no solo aportan a cambiar la dinámica que tenemos como ciudad, sino que también pueden ser suficientemente rentables para cualquier grupo inversor.
