This work focuses on answering the question: are there grounds to believe that the CIA has been active in Ecuador during administration of Rafael Correa as a way to break his leftist government? To answer this question, it is intended to use the past (60s and 80s) as a determinant of the methods used by the CIA focusing on the reasons why the CIA decided to influence Ecuadorian politics during those decades to establish connections with the present. The investigation will then focus on two particular presidential periods: the one of Carlos Julio Arosemena Monroy and the one of Jaime Roldós Aguilera. These two periods will be analyzed in terms of the context of the country along with the personalities of the leaders to be compared with the regime of Rafael Correa, and in this way it will be concluded with the results obtained that the infiltration of the CIA in Ecuadorian politics is effectively possible since reasons have been found that explain why the Agency would seek to influence it to align it with US interests.
Este trabajo investigativo se centra en responder la pregunta: ¿existen motivos para creer que la CIA ha desplegado una influencia activa en el Ecuador durante la administración de Rafael Correa como una manera de quebrantar su gobierno de izquierda? Para responder dicha incógnita, se pretende utilizar el pasado (década de los 60s y 80s) como un determinante de los métodos usados por la CIA, analizando los motivos por los cuales la CIA decidió influenciar la política ecuatoriana durante esas décadas para establecer conexiones con el presente. La investigación, entonces, se enfoca en dos periodos presidenciales particulares: el de Carlos Julio Arosemena Monroy y el de Jaime Roldós Aguilera. Esos dos periodos son analizados en términos del contexto del país junto con las personalidades de los lideres para ser comparados con el régimen de Rafael Correa, y de esa manera se concluirá con los resultados obtenidos que la infiltración de la CIA en la política ecuatoriana es efectivamente posible puesto que se han encontrado motivos por los que la Agencia buscaría influenciarla para alinearla a los intereses estadounidenses.
