This research aims to analyze the importance of play and executive functions in children ages 0 to 5. A literature review was performed based on related topics and prominent authors that discuss these issues. The information found also referred to early schooling and its resistance to learning through play due to fear adults have today towards this activity as part of the school curriculum (Almon , 2009). As for play and executive functions, this investigation analyzed their features, functions and benefits to later connect them together and answer the following question: how can play stimulate the development of executive functions in children ages 0-5 years? As a result, it was concluded that play develops different skills in children such as: self-control, private speech, working memory and problem resolution. For this reason, it was stated that play is an essential tool to work executive functions and foster the growth of successful children in their academic life, social relationships and in the formation and achievement of goals (Bruner, 1983 in Singer, Michnick and Hirsh -Pasek, 2006).
La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo analizar la importancia del juego y las funciones ejecutivas en los niños de 0 a 5 años. Se realizó una revisión de literatura basándose en temas relacionados y en autores destacados. Se buscó información acerca de la escolarización y como esta ha creado resistencia al aprendizaje a través del juego debido al miedo que tienen hoy en día los adultos hacia dicha actividad como parte del currículo escolar (Almon, 2009). En cuanto al juego y a las funciones ejecutivas se analizaron sus respectivas características, funciones y beneficios para luego poder conectar la información obtenida y responder a la siguiente pregunta: ¿Cómo el juego puede estimular el desarrollo de las funciones ejecutivas en los niños y niñas de 0 a 5 años? Se encontró que el juego desarrolla distintas habilidades que forman parte de las funciones ejecutivas en los niños, entre estas el autocontrol, el habla privada, la memoria de trabajo, y la resolución de conflictos. Por esta razón se afirmó que el juego es una herramienta esencial para trabajar estas destrezas y fomentar el crecimiento de niños exitosos en su vida académica, en las relaciones sociales y en sus metas futuras (Bruner, 1983, citado en Singer, Michnick, y Hirsh-Pasek, 2006).
