Modernism and arielism, literary movements from the beginning of the 20th century, spread the ideas of the supremacy of the intellect and the erudite hero through Latin America, as a result of the influences, confluences y divergences of the ideologies of Latin-American and European intellectuals like José Martí, José Enrique Rodó, Rubén Darío, Gabriel d’Annunzio, Friedrich Nietzsche, Charles Baudelaire. The modernism and the arielism, in some of their variants, seek to reformulate, through the intellectual heroism, the image of Latin American and its youth. In the literary work of Gonzalo Zaldumbide (1884–1965), an Ecuadorian writer of the early 20th century, this mythification of the Latin-American intellectual hero is portrayed. Zaldumbide praises the intellectual heroism in almost all of his work; this is his Project, because this hero is constructed from some of the ideas of modernism and arieslim such as: the estheticism, the amorality, the americanism, the parnasianism, the antiutilitarism. Ideas to which Zaldumbide subscribes in spite of the contradictions they portray. From this ideas, in which the interest and influences of Zaldumbide falls, the messianic character of the hero is proposed; a character provided by the intellectuality, the spirit, and the admiration of beauty, as a path that Latin-Americans must follow.
El modernismo y el arielismo, movimientos de inicios del siglo XX, contagiaron a Latinoamérica con las ideas de la supremacía del intelecto y del héroe erudito como resultado de las influencias, confluencias y divergencias de las ideologías de intelectuales latinoamericanos y europeos como José Martí, José Enrique Rodó, Rubén Darío, Gabriel d’Annunzio, Friedrich Nietzsche, Charles Baudelaire. El modernismo y el arielismo, en algunas de sus variantes, buscan reformular, mediante el heroísmo intelectual, la imagen de Latinoamérica y sus juventudes. En la obra de Gonzalo Zaldumbide (1884–1965), escritor ecuatoriano de inicios de siglo veinte, se observa esta mitificación del héroe latinoamericano intelectual. Zaldumbide hace un elogio al heroísmo intelectual en toda su obra, es éste su proyecto puesto que éste héroe se construye desde algunas ideas del modernismo: el esteticismo, la amoralidad, el americanismo, el parnasianismo, ideas a las que Zaldumbide suscribe, a pesar de las contradicciones que representan. Desde estas ideas, en las que recae el interés e influencias de Zaldumbide, se propone el carácter mesiánico del héroe proporcionado por la intelectualidad, el espíritu y la admiración a la belleza.
