Description

The body and skin as a canvas allows us to tackle this job from an artistic eye and from multiple perspectives. This versatility of perspectives allow the artist to demonstrate different areas that the make-up artist can develop in social environments, cultures, spirits, emotions, philosophies, and commercials. In this way, the artist can utilize various tools related with skin art such as make up fx, characterization, body painting, belly painting, and film/performance make up in order to communicate an intrinsic and humanistic side. This makeup art is therapeutic and shows the versatility of makeup due to all the aforementioned qualities. Furthermore, the body can be interpreted in a myriad of ways containing symbols and serving as a transmitter of stories. The work of art depending on the goal has the capacity to serve as a tool of cleansing. The present research makes a distinction from the external vision and the body’s surface. This distinction values the everyday life and emphasizes symbolic aspects creating a transformation through the color. In the modern-day, body art can be considered a new form of expression that is far from conventional due to its distinct canvas. The body, skill, form, silhouette, and gestures represent life. They have an ability that is felt from within the observer and possess movement due to its subject. The art encapsulates answers according to the social, personal, emotional, familiar, and ideological values. The body talks, it’s a temple, a container of stories and dreams that can be brought into the external world through art. On the other hand, the theme’s selection for this project had an influence in the beginning years of my academic career of Communicational Design and Contemporary Art in the Universidad San Francisco de Quito inside of the Colegio de Comunicación y Artes Contemporáneas (COCOA). It was a key experience in my academic formation that drove me to experiment and choose the topic “The Body as a Canvas” or “El cuerpo como canvas.” Combining Design Communication with the unlimited world of art and personal experiences during these five years have reached a conclusion that this study has an intimate, creative,and emotional value allowing me to expand my knowledge of my life and world.
El cuerpo y la piel como canvas nos permite abordar este trabajo desde una óptica artística y desde múltiples perspectivas. Estos puntos, permiten mostrar los diferentes campos en los que el make up artístico puede desarrollarse en ámbitos sociales, culturales, espirituales, emocionales, filosóficos y comerciales; de este modo se utiliza todo lo que se relaciona con el arte en la piel como: make up fx y de caracterización, body painting, belly painting, el make up dentro del cine y el performance, para comunicar el lado intrínseco del ser humano desde la parte terapéutica y mostrar la versatilidad del maquillaje en las áreas mencionadas anteriormente. De este modo, al cuerpo se lo puede leer de varias maneras, aparece como un contenedor de símbolos y transmisor de historias y como una obra de arte que dependiendo del objetivo llega a ser una herramienta se sanación. Entonces, la presente investigación hace un distanciamiento de la visión externa y superficial del cuerpo que se aprecia en la cotidianidad y permite hacer énfasis en aspectos simbólicos que constituyen a una persona en su proceso de transformación a partir del color.En los tiempos de hoy, el arte sobre el cuerpo humano puede ser considerado una nueva forma de expresión poco convencional por ser un lienzo diferente. El cuerpo, la piel, la forma, la silueta, las expresiones y gesticulación representan vida y tienen un relieve distinto se sienten, tienen movimiento, emanan respuestas según el entorno, social, personal, emocional, familiar e ideológico. El cuerpo habla, es un templo, es un contenedor de historias y sueños que pueden ser exteriorizados a través del arte. Por otro lado, la selección del tema para este proyecto tuvo la influencia de los primeros años de mi carrera como estudiante de diseño comunicacional y artista contemporánea en la Universidad San Francisco de Quito dentro del Colegio de Comunicación y Artes Contemporáneas (COCOA), momento clave en mi formación académica que me condujo a experimentar y elegir el tema “El cuerpo como canvas”. Debo resaltar que combinar la comunicación del diseño con el mundo ilimitado del arte y experiencias personales a lo largo de estos 5 años, ha llevado a que esta investigación tenga un valor íntimo, creativo y emotivo que les invita a conocer sobe mi vida y mi mundo.
