According to the Plan Nacional del Buen Vivir, the government of Ecuador has decided to launch a project with the objective of introducing the usage of electronic money in the country. It has also disposed for the Central Bank of Ecuador to take the lead of the project. The main goal of the introduction of the electronic money is the financial inclusion of citizens who, for various reasons, such as lack of resources or education, have been unable to access the services of the national financial system. Considering this, the thesis analyzes the plan for the introduction of the electronic money, which consists of three main phases, of which phase two is underway at the time this thesis was written. In addition, this thesis strives to understand the actual implications of the introduction of electronic money, for which it has collected current short-term statistics and data, in order to expose possible advantages and disadvantages arising from this new system. Likewise, it presents a comparison with the situation in Peru, since the country is currently implementing a similar plan for the introduction of electronic money as the one in Ecuador.
El Gobierno del Ecuador, de acuerdo al Plan Nacional del Buen Vivir, ha decidido implementar el proyecto de dinero electrónico en el país y lo ha puesto a cargo del Banco Central. El objetivo principal del mismo es la inclusión financiera de ciudadanos que, por distintas situaciones como la falta de recursos o educación, no han podido acceder a los servicios del sistema financiero nacional. Con esta premisa, se analiza el plan de lanzamiento e introducción del dinero electrónico, que consiste de tres fases principales, de las cuales el país se encuentra en la segunda al momento de realizar esta tesis. Además, se presentan datos estadísticos reales en el corto plazo, así como también, ventajas y desventajas que trae consigo la utilización e implementación del sistema de dinero electrónico en el Ecuador. Igualmente, se realiza una comparación con la situación del Perú, ya que este país se encuentra implementando actualmente un plan de dinero electrónico de naturaleza y objetivos similares al del Ecuador.
