Las universidades viven tiempos de cambios, con demandas exigentes de los entornos socioeconómicos y culturales. Entre sus recursos, es hoy la investigación/innovación quien mejor puede apoyar su adaptabilidad y aceptación. La mejora de la función de investigación en las universidades y su papel social va acompañado estrechamente al perfeccionamiento de su gestión, por lo que la incorporación de nuevas herramientas de gestión es una necesidad para liderar ese proceso. Este trabajo responde a esos requerimientos al analizar el valor del concepto – proceso “capacidad preinnovativa universitaria” para el desarrollo investigativo e innovativo de las Instituciones de Educación Superior. El concepto es una propuesta del autor del trabajo y ha sido probado en cuanto a su valor heurístico con su utilización como instrumento de análisis de centros universitarios especializados de investigación y con su inserción en el modelo teórico de gestión para el desarrollo de la función de investigación generativa de la Universidad Regional Autónoma de Los Andes (UNIANDES, Ecuador).
University it is changing, with demands from socio-economic and cultural context. Among its resources, it is today the research / innovation that can best support its adaptability and acceptance. The improvement of the research function in universities and their social role is closely accompanied by the improvement of their management, so the incorporation of new management tools is a necessity to lead this process. This article responds to these requirements when analyzing the value of the concept “preinnovative university capacity" for the investigative and innovative development of Higher Education Institutions. The concept has been tested in terms of its heuristic value with its use as an instrument of analysis at specialized university research centers and its inside in the theoretical management model for the development of the research function generative in the Universidad Autónoma de Los Andes (UNIANDES, Ecuador).
