The economic, social and cultural rights from the perspective of the economic theory

Description: In the last 40 years, the liberal thinking has been accepted and introduced into economic theory. This paper deals with the analysis of the potential incompatibility between liberal thinking and the Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR). We argue that, with minor exceptions, the ICESCR have not been appropiately considered in the economic theory. Consequently, considering economic rights and theory as incompatible subjects is a steril debate. It is compulsory for researchers and policy makers to open a productive discussion, leading to valid solutions in both matters.
En los últimos 40 años la economía ha tendido a aceptar el pensamiento liberal e incorporarlo a la teoría económica. Este trabajo trata de analizar si los derechos económicos, sociales y culturales (DESC) son incompatibles con el pensamiento liberal. Tal como veremos dentro de esta investigación, salvo algunas excepciones, los DESC no tienen cabida dentro de la teoría económica actual. En consecuencia, no cabe plantearse un debate que ponga de un lado a la economía teórica actual y de otro a los DESC, como si fuesen incompatibles. Sino que cabe desarrollar líneas de trabajo enfocadas a crear puentes de entendimiento entre los DESC y la teoría económica.
