The goal of the automotive the industry for the beginning of the next century is to increase the fuel efficiency by a factor of three. One of the most feasible ways to achieve this goal is by weight reduction of the vehicle. Since aluminum alloys have high specific strength, good formability and excellent corrosion resistance, several alloys have been selected to replace steel in a new generation of cars.
