Description

Knowledge is considered as a competitive advantage for any industry, and tourism is not an exception. Despite all the tourism research generated worldwide, there is little understanding on how the industry can apply the generated knowledge. Knowledge management is defined as ?the activities involved in discovering, capturing, sharing and applying knowledge in terms of resources, documents and people skills, so as to enhance, in a cost-effective fashion, the impact of knowledge on the unit`s goal achievement? (Becerra-Fernandez, Gonzalez, & Sabherwal, 2004). Moreover, it has been recognised that in order to address climate change, tourism destinations will need to adapt to this issue. However, evidence from the industry and government, advices that there is a low level of preparedness within the sector (D. Scott, G?ssling, & Hall, 2012). Therefore, considering that this is a destination that has suffered from extreme weather events; a knowledge management approach will be used to explore the knowledge applied by tourism stakeholders with regards to climate change, their concern about climate change and the role of the government in this issue.
