Both globalization and corruption are two phenomena that have been used with a wide frequency within public debates all over the world in the last few years, and they are both complex concepts. Globalization on one hand can be seen as a relatively new phenomenon while on the other hand, corruption is one that has been present for a very long time. Corrupt practices have always attracted attention around the world, and have been a growing international and regional concern, especially in developing regions such as Latin America, Africa and Asia, where countries have not only to fight corrupt practices but encounter many other set of problems along their developing processes. Globalization is a complicated and evolving process, but it could be simply described as the free exchange of capital and money, information, people and ideas across the world. There are three main causes of globalization that can be easily identified, for example deregulation, technical innovation, and the emergence of both regional and global trading blocs. But to what extent are these two phenomena linked to each other? And in which ways and to what extent are they both correlated? This short research paper will try to explore and find what type of relationship there is between both concepts, how they are both linked and how they both work in the international arena; from their core definitions, causes, consequences and the proposition of a few possible solutions.
Tanto la globalización así como también la corrupción, son dos palabras las cuales han sido ampliamente usadas con frecuencia dentro de debates públicos a nivel mundial en los últimos años, y ambos son conceptos de alta complejidad. La globalización por un lado, se puede tomar en cuenta como un fenómeno relativamente nuevo; mientras que la corrupción es un fenómeno el cual ha estado presente en el ámbito mundial prácticamente desde los inicios de la sociedad como tal. En un mundo como el de hoy en día en el cual la globalización ha ido tomando fuerza con el paso de los años, cabe sin duda preguntarnos ¿hasta qué punto ambos fenómenos de globalización y corrupción pueden llegar a conectarse e impulsarse mutuamente? ¿Y de qué manera existe una correlación directa entre ambos conceptos? En este trabajo de investigación, se explorará esta correlación entre ambos fenómenos; cómo se encuentran conectados el uno con el otro afectando de manera conjunta las interacciones del sistema internacional. Tomando como argumentos principales las definiciones centrales de ambos fenómenos, sus causas principales, sus consecuencias, y proponiendo a manera de conclusión, algunas recomendaciones esenciales para intentar contrarrestar los efectos que en conjunto estos dos fenómenos han causado a nivel global.
